Game Objective
Challenge your feline to destroy the outer coating of their game piece to consume the prey treats hidden inside!
Game Players
1 Brave Whiskers Socializer & 1 Green or Orange Jalapeno Feline
Materials / Components / Setup
- Collect 1 cardboard toilet paper roll, 10-20 temptations treats, and catnip (optional).
- Twist, or fold into itself, one end of the cardboard toilet paper roll to close it.
- Fill partially closed cardboard toilet paper roll with treats and optional catnip. Fresh catnip can be rubbed on the inside of the tube!
- Loosely twist, or fold in, the other end of the cardboard toilet paper roll to fully close the game piece.
- Place the game into the kennel for the feline player to hunt the treats!
How to Play / Rules
- Open the kennel door and place the tootsie roll in the center of the kennel, away from the litterbox.
- Close the door and allow the feline to investigate the game.
- Encourage the cat to bat, bite, toss, wrestle, and paw the game. Demonstrate interaction if necessary.
- Record the number of treats liberated and how the feline interacted with the game.
Scoring / Winning the Game
Each retrieved treat is 1 point. To win, the feline should hunt all treats successfully! Be sure to record the score and include the total points possible in your notes!
Special Situations / Safety / Fair Play Guidelines
- Always ensure that the feline is secured when opening and working in the kennel.
- Do not overfill the tootsie roll!
- Ensure there are no loose cardboard pieces the cat can ingest.
- Do not over-tighten the ends of the tootsie roll! The feline will get frustrated and hate the game!
Variations / Levels
- Newbies: use loose twists at the end of the tootsie roll, or loosely fold them instead.
- Advanced Felines: use tighter twists at the end of the tootsie roll.
- If your feline player is struggling, make a handful of slits, or small holes, in the tube. Ensure there are no loose or frayed edges. It is important the feline win the game!
Safety Reminder
All enrichment activities should be supervised by shelter staff. Remove any damaged components immediately and discontinue use if a cat attempts to ingest any portion of the enrichment item. Select materials appropriate for the individual cat's age, health status and behavioral history.
